Welcome and Update
Welcome to the Birkbeck Computer Science Society, or BBK CSS for short!
We are a brand new society this year (literally a few days old now) but thanks to you our membership size is already substantial. We are so happy that there are so many of you who share our enthusiasm in wanting to form a friendly and welcoming community of students passionate about networking, sharing and learning!
Society Committee
Your society committee is:
- Kerry Tarlton (2nd year BSc Data Science and Computing, part-time)
- Alexei Vartoumian (2nd Year BSc Computing, part-time)
- Audrey Jordan (2nd year BSc Data Science and Computing, part-time)
Together, we are responsible for managing the society and organising events that are of interest and purpose to you, our members.
We are still waiting for our official society email to be set up so if you need to contact us in the interim please feel free to do so via our Facebook and Instagram accounts (see links under 'Communications' below).
Events
Our very first event will be the 'Meet & Greet' on Friday 21 October 2022, and you can book tickets to join the event by going to the event booking page.
This is a great opportunity to meet some like-minded people and hopefully form some connections. We hope you can join us, but don't worry if you can't make it as we will be organising more social events soon!
We are finalising the details of our subsequent events and they will be published shortly, but below is a summary of what we have planned so far. As our society grows and we get a sense of engagement levels and what's important to all of you, we will create more events.
- Coding Challenge - early November
- Industry Q&A - late November
- Hackathon - early to mid-December
IMPORTANT: You do need to be a member of the society to participate in our events, but the good news is that member is completely free!
Staying Updated
We plan to send out a periodic newsletter highlighting upcoming events and sharing useful resources. While we work on deciding the format and frequency of the newsletter, you can keep up to date with activities by following us on our social media accounts.
We will shortly be getting a dedicated Teams site where we will host any online or hybrid events we run and which will also serve as a platform for members to interact with each other. We hope this will also help facilitate study groups and collaborative projects.
