Who are we for?

Anyone who is enthusiastic about any aspect of computer science or data science. Students from all departments and all skill levels are welcome!

What do we offer?

We want our members to get the most out of their time at Birkbeck by meeting and learning from each other, building confidence in your skills, getting career-ready, and having fun while you do it! We'll do this by providing a community where everyone feels welcome and engaged with each other.

Below are just some of the activities we will run. Most events will be face-to-face but we aim to make some of them available as hybrid or online events.

  • Socialising and networking events
  • Hackathons
  • Coding challenges based on module topics and technical interview tests
  • Q&A with industry professionals
  • Themed book, film and game nights
  • Peer CV review and interview practice
  • Member profiles
  • Field trips
  • And much more!

We will also soon have a dedicated Teams site where our online events will be hosted and which will serve as a platform for members to communicate with each other, where study groups can be organised and we can share useful resources.

How does it work?

Just come along to an event, meet some nice people and learn some stuff at your own pace. Then, if you like it, come to another one!

Are there any rules?

Only that you are respectful of your fellow society members. It's cool to be kind!

Birkbeck Students' Union groups are only open to full membership for enrolled Birkbeck students. Other membership categories may exist depending on the group's constitution and the approval of the SU's Executive Committee.

In additional to the general term and conditions for Birkbeck Students' Union organised and managed events, all our Clubs, Societies, Networks and Projects may apply additonal conditions on attendance. Examples can be, and not limited to, membership of a club or society, students from one programme or class, self-organised groups and liberation campaigns limited to participants on a self-defining basis into the group membership (e.g. LGBTQ+ students or women only).

All attendees at an event must register in advance and ensure they bring along a copy of their e-ticket and their Birkbeck student ID.
