LOOKING FOR A NEW COMMITTEE - contact su-international@bbk.ac.uk and join the society!

The International Students Society (ISS) is a student-run society at Birkbeck, University of London.

The society is open to undergraduates and postgraduates at Birkbeck, University of London. It aims to provide support for International Students and create an international community within Birkbeck by hosting social activities and events for international students throughout the academic year. This society has no official affiliation with the International Students Office.

The International Students' Officer will be part of the Society, so they can raise concerns and provide feedback to the College about things that International Students at Birkbeck could do with more support in. As international students our student experience is often impacted by factors that are unique to our circumstances. Fees, travel, visas, housing & employment are just a few of the areas that often present unique challenges for international students and our university is yet to reassure us since the Brexit vote & the impletmentation of the Government's Teaching & Excellence Framework. Many of us will be new to the UK, many of us will be far from our families/support systems, a few of us will never understand the appeal of Marmite.

For all these reasons and many more, it's important that we have a space to share our experiences and decide how we want to tackle the issues that face us, whether that's by standing up for our rights or sitting down for a drink (or two?).
