On Saturday 28th April, the Birkbeck Cricket Team enjoyed their first (friendly) fixture against the University of Westminster. What some had predicted, based on the previous week's horrible weather, it was a cool and breezy day - perfect for a game of cricket! Nevertheless, it was a fine day for Cricket.

Our first fixture and friendly was against the University of Westminster. Since we play in the London Universities Sports League, and Westminster plays in the Regional South Eastern Division, both sides appreciated the new opportunity to play against each other. We play twenty 20 overs and usually take a short 10-15 minutes break.

Playing in Regent's Park allows us to enjoy the nice central london location - often envied by the oppositions because they're based in zone 5-7.

The fixture began with Birkbeck losing the coin toss, so having to field the team in, while there was some concerned over the wet and rainy ground from the day before, the team enjoyed some light hearted slips and from a ravenous raven swooping down twice to steal one of our player's lunches.

The fixture ended with Birkbeck winning against Westminster's 135 runs. Special shout out to Dominic Gillan's fantastic batting skills!

Birkbeck Cricket Club welcomes new members and we encourage everyone to take part in future fixtures. Whether you want to play cricket for the team or just want to watch and relax at Regent's Park, get in tocuh at bbkcricsoc@gmail.com.
