Last year the psychological had a very successful debut year after a brief hiatus. That year consisted of socials, talks, a very successful careers and a screening of ‘My beautiful broken brain’ so successful it launched the beginnings of the film society.

Learning from last year the psychological society is continuing to organise events for the expansion of the academic and intellectual interests of the students, such as talks and debates in fields relevant to both the psychological curriculum and wider psychological interests. Following from the success of ‘my beautiful broken brain’ the psychological society shall be collaborating with the film society for psychological themed films such as ‘The experiment’ and ‘Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind’. Birkbeck has many career focussed students, to adapt to this we are arranging for a careers event for students to explore potential career paths, and a work experience events to advertise psychological relevant work for students while studying.

To strengthen the connection between academics and student’s we shall be having socials such as pub quizzes available to both, allowing for student’s to have better access to any staff who may help them with their studies and for staff to learn more about the student experience. Another route to increase access between the student’s and the psychological department is the development of a web forum which will allows students to connect to the learning support officers more easily as well as writing and sharing psychology content they find interesting.
