A bit about me...

A bit about me...

What is your role?

As Student Leader, it is my duty to improve the Birkbeck experience for all. I spend much of my time improving access and participation, especially for disadvantaged students at Birkbeck. I like to help all students who come to me with a problem and have successfully completed all tasks I have set for myself so far and intend to keep this momentum going for the coming year.

What is your role?

A voice for the students, one of the two student leaders of BBKSU here to listen and learn.

Tell us a bit about yourself...

My name is Pedro Malheiro, I am born Portuguese and naturalized British I have passed my second year successfully and will now move to my 3rd year of BSc Economics and Business. Prior to joining Birkbeck, I was a member of Cabin Crew for some of the biggest airlines in Europe, which allowed me to travel the world before 25. I then decided to pursue my dream of higher education and Birkbeck’s pursuit of providing higher education to working-class people really moved me so I applied and successfully got in just as I left my cabin crew job. While here I have tried to improve everyone's experience firstly in my Department as a Student Representative then as a Student Leader I enacted a series of changes to ensure Birkbeck is a more welcoming place for International Students, Refugees and Students fleeing or suffering from the effects of war. I have volunteered with many different charities from Cancer Research UK raising funds using my Instagram page @londonwalksforcancer I volunteer with the 3million a European Citizen's rights organization that promotes EU citizen's rights in the UK after Brexit. I have had work published as a runner-up winner of Trade Finance Global’s Accelerate Scholarship which you can see on my LinkedIn. And also I won 1st prize out of 4000 UK students in the category of resilience in the ICAEW Top 100 competition a prize sponsored by Grant Thornton called “ Resilient Performer”.

Tell us a bit about yourself...
My name is Ibrahim Badmus and I am currently studying Data Science and Computing here at Birkbeck College, University of London. I enrolled in Birkbeck after working and studying in a North London college. I enjoy reading comic books and seeing different sights in London. I really am passionate about students getting the best out of their university experience and enjoying the spirit of being on campus for evening studies.

Why did you run in the elections?

I feel that I have done great work over the past year consistently delivering results and I still saw a lot of things that I would like to see changed at Birkbeck so I placed my goals on the student body and it was very well received so I am happy to continue working for the improvement of the Birkbeck experience for all.

Why did you run in the elections?

I ran because I wanted to connect with other students at Birkbeck listen to their issues and resolve them. I too have had my fair share of different experiences at this University but I wanted to make sure that everyone had a story to tell from their uni days (pardon the pun)

Tell us a fun fact about yourself?

I had a goal to travel the 5 continents before I turned 25 which I successfully completed.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself?

Did I mention I enjoy comic books and sightseeing through the city of London. Sometimes I wish I was a character in the television show Gogglebox.

What are your goals for the year?

I want to maintain online examinations for those students who haven’t done any other type of examination during their course I believe this to be only fair.

Increase and improve catering options at Birkbeck such as seeing the bar reopened and potentially adding self-serve order machines to campus where students can self-order their food daily and collect on campus.

Work on an access and participation plan with the college to ensure more funds are allocated for our most underprivileged students who will undoubtedly be most impacted by the cost of the living crisis we are currently experiencing.

What are your goals for the year?
To bring a strong sense of community to Birkbeck.
